Breaking Waves

Posted on: March 14th, 2013 by Hannah Beasley 8 Comments

The idea for this project is the concept of how amazingly powerful nature is compared to the things that men build. You so often see old, falling down buildings in vast fields or waves beating against a forgotten pier. It’s a really interesting concept, I think, and I love the colors we’re working with – especially the dusty blue and the burnt gold. The colors + handwritten type makes for an extra-fun project!

(Thank you all for your sweet comments on my last post! Jo loved it when I told him what you all said, and in addition to that I’ve been doing much better in the last few days. I’ve just needed to stop worrying…not always an easy thing to do! Thank you guys for everything you said – each comment I get always means so much to me!)

Little Bits of Life

I missed Monday Inspiration yesterday. Sometimes life gets rough and you just don’t feel like you have it in you to do “normal,” you know? Yesterday was like that – a hard kind of day. I’ll be back with Monday Inspiration next week, though.

I wanted to post a few shots of my little brother, Jo. It was his birthday almost a week ago, and we’ve been celebrating it for the past six days…the perfect kind of birthday, right?

Simple and Bright

I love how soft and natural this mood board is. This is one of those projects where it just fits, you know? This is the type of collaboration I want to keep doing, this is the kind of person I want to keep working with. We’re doing a complete re-brand for her photography business – from top to bottom – and it’s been great so far. Being able to talk with someone about their business, where they are and where they want to go, as well as being able to help that happen is truly what I love doing. And it’s especially awesome when those people are artists themselves. There’s all this added creativity and genuine fun…and it’s the best. I’m looking forward to being able to share more of this project!

Monday Inspiration (and a life update)

Posted on: March 4th, 2013 by Hannah Beasley 4 Comments

I’m so glad to have Monday Inspiration – it’s a way to slow down a little bit, enjoy others work while taking a break from mine, and being able to share some of my favorites with all of you. I’ve been realizing recently how drawn I am to black and white + neutral design…the piece on the top left is one of my recent favs. Striking black type on a neutral texture gets me every time. I guess I’m a broken record, but hey, that’s okay, right? I especially love the last two photos, for their colors and the SNOW! I’m still holding out for a big snow here (translation: big snow in NC = 4 inches), and won’t give up until spring. If Arizona can get some (jealous of you, Jessica!), then I think we should too. ;)

I’ve spent this week dying over my new camera and battery grip (okay, I admit I think it looks cool. And yes, that’s part of the reason I bought it. No shame.) I’m so thankful for how everything fell into place to allow me to get the very thing I’ve been wanting for three years…including how my wonderful grandma, Lita, is sending me one of her own lenses! How special is that? I’m so thankful for how wonderful my clients have been, and how many there have been! I have been continually busy with work for more than six months, and all my needs have been provided for. I didn’t need any of this, but it’s been given to me, and I am so grateful.

I’ve also spent the last few days in much nervousness and excitement. It’s one of those times where a certain door might open, one that I’ve been trying to get through for almost nine years. I’m scared it might not happen, elated just thinking about it possibly happening, and trying not to worry about details. I was thinking about these verses this morning, because this is what I need to be doing…trusting Jesus.

Come, behold the works of the Lord,
Who has made desolations in the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariot in the fire.

Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!

The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.
-Psalm 46:8-11

This Week

Posted on: February 27th, 2013 by Hannah Beasley 2 Comments

We went to see one of our elderly friends this week, a lady in her late eighties whom we’ve known for almost eleven years. She’s gotten to the point where she can’t drive anymore, can’t go out and can’t do all the things she used to do. She’s been like a grandma to our entire family for the longest time, and she never fails to remind us of her love for our family. Time keeps floating by, and as it does her conversation holds more of heaven than I think it ever has before. She keeps saying she’s just waiting for Jesus to call her home, saying she can’t wait to see what heaven will be like, and what it’ll be like to see her Savior. This last visit I brought my camera, and I’m so glad I did. We don’t know how long she’ll be with us, and the time we have with her now is too precious to be missed or forgotten.

I’ve been thinking about that so much recently. People always say that you have to remember to cherish every second, but I think sometimes we don’t really think about what that means, and how true it is. None of us knows when we will pass away. It could be sudden, it could be quiet, it could be tomorrow or sixty years from now. Regardless, there will come a point where it will happen to a loved one, and those of us affected will have to accept the reality that that person is gone. There is no reversal, no chance of calling them back. There will be no second chance to say anything more, or to tell them I love you. And that’s why we have to treasure life now, while we and those we love still have it; why we must all be prepared at any moment to leave this world.

The Christian knows no change with regard to God. He may be rich to-day and poor to-morrow; he may be sickly to-day and well to-morrow; he may be in happiness to-day, to-morrow he may be distressed-but there is no change with regard to his relationship to God. If he loved me yesterday, he loves me to-day. My unmoving mansion of rest is my blessed Lord. Let prospects be blighted; let hopes be blasted; let joy be withered; let mildews destroy everything; I have lost nothing of what I have in God. He is "my strong habitation whereunto I can continually resort." I am a pilgrim in the world, but at home in my God. In the earth I wander, but in God I dwell in a quiet habitation.
