Monday Inspiration

This North Carolinian is still holding out hope for snow. I keep seeing photos on pinterest of snow-covered evergreens and mountains, stacks of firewood, and cold gray skies. Well, here it looks and feels like spring. =P We haven’t even had a proper winter yet! There’s still time for one, though. I hope it comes. Can’t the rest of the nation share a little of their cold and snow with the South? ;) I’d take it.

I’ve recently been very inspired + excited about work. We all go through seasons of just getting through work, and other seasons of loving it so much! I’m enjoying this time right now. I’ve been working on quite a few client projects which are ones I’m looking forward to sharing (and boy, do I have some blog posts to write! I’ve gotten behind on that.) I’m also trying to finish up my website as soon as possible. It’s coming together really well, and I want to put it out there soon.

Happy Monday!

I recently finished working on this blog design with Ali – a very talented illustrator, mom and wife, and self-described tea enthusiast. =) This is the third time we’ve worked together, and I have to say I love it every time! Ali is one of those incredibly sweet people that is super fun to work with due to her creativity and enthusiasm. (Plus, it’s fun to brainstorm with someone who loves the same sort of style that you do!)

This time we went with a deep gold and navy blue color scheme, with some light grays in there to balance out the richness of the rest of the colors. (See the mood board here) Ali loves the embossed look, so I thought I would try hand lettering the header title and embossing it…because the real thing is better than a good Photoshop imitation, right? ;) So I tried a few things for the lettering, we settled on the final design, and then I embossed it, scanned it to my computer, and was able to use it in the header! I really love how it turned out – especially against that deep blue background. It just makes me happy. =) To round out the design, Ali drew a beautiful wreath to frame her photo in the sidebar, as well as a string of light bulbs that are at the very bottom of the blog.

Be sure to check out Orli and follow it! Ali has some great posts already, and there will be many more additions in the way of DIY posts, recipes, and more!

Life & Things

I think I’m officially addicted to coffee. I got up today, did my normal morning routine minus the coffee, and got to work – but I did not feel like working. I just felt kind of tired and in the mood to sit around and read. Fast forward to the afternoon. I had a cappuccino and totally felt back to normal. Is this a problem? Or a good thing? I think it’s probably the later. ;)

It’s been kind of a weird week for me – in between working with clients I’ve been overhauling my website. The only reason I’m doing this is because it just doesn’t have the right amount/type of content it needs, and I also have been going in a slightly different visual direction, so I decided I would just redo the whole thing and make it more content-oriented, as well as a little more traditional in terms of the general layout. Inspiration struck in the middle of the week, so I’ve been going full steam ahead with that. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned about myself, it’s that working on my own projects is harder than working on a client project…I am more picky and opinionated than they ever are! When that happens I normally end up being indecisive and just put everything off. So when I start loving whatever I’m working on and have a constant flow of ideas, I have to seize that before it’s gone. Is that a thing with designers? That designing for a client is a million times easier than working for yourself?

I thought I would just put up the new blog design now instead of waiting…it’s very similar to the site and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! My favorite part is the evergreen background. (although I don’t actually know what that greenery is. It looks kind of like pine branches…just smaller and not as stiff. Oh well. I’m not a plant person.) Anyway, that’s what my week has been like…I’m hoping to have everything done within two weeks, but we’ll see how that goes.
