As Usual…I’m Late

Posted on: January 7th, 2012 by Hannah Beasley 2 Comments

buttonI tend to start beginning-of-the-year challenges after the year has begun, so when I saw some of my Blogger friends start the challenge to taking two photos a day – one of themselves and one of their day – I thought, why not do it too? So yes, even though I’m late starting, I’m going to participate.

Thus enters the new blog These Moments, where I’ll post my photos from each day. Although I’ll be doing a total of three photos per day; two of life that day and one of myself. Why don’t you check it out? And maybe…if you’re like me…think about joining in, even though it is January seventh. ;)

2012

Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.
He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,
And your justice as the noonday.

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath;
Do not fret—it only causes harm.

Psalm 37:3-8

I don’t want to be weird about a certain word/idea/etc. for 2012…I guess it could be easy to do that, and get caught up in the symbolism while missing the real point. But I like the idea of thinking of a goal for 2012, instead of making a list of resolutions. Because a goal is about the end result, something, in this case, that can only be achieved through God; as Emily already said.

So this year, for 2012, my word is trust. Very simply, I just want to trust the Lord more for my future, that He already has it planned out, that everything He sends me through (whether terribly hard or wonderful) is for a purpose. 2010 was the worst year of my life. 2011 was the toughest. I had to deal with a lot of grief, frustration, and anger; and it sure isn’t over yet, not by a long shot. But I think I’m finally starting to learn my lesson, little by little – that hate is never right; that we are called to love everyone, especially believers, whether we like them personally or not (that’s a hard one – the hardest, really); that every little blessing and moment should be cherished, because you never know when life might get harder and you’ll wish for those old times.

So I want to trust more. And not be a hypocrite. Because it’s so easy to say things, but not mean them in the heart. Even now I really want to be sure that I mean what I say and I’m not writing this just because so many bloggers do similar posts. It needs to be truly from my heart.

That’s my goal for this year. What’s yours?

Thoughts

panoramaThis morning I got up with the sun – and I am so glad I did. My alarm clock went off and I didn’t move, just trying to decide if it was worth it to get up when I was still so tired. Well, it was. I have never seen a sunrise more gorgeous than it was this morning – with the mist and light, shadows on the grass, and the cold air. I had brought my camera with me (I was walking our dog), because I had decided I needed some photos from the last day of 2011. The sunrise was hard to see from the top of the street, so Rusty and I went down to the other end…and saw this. Wow, was it gorgeous. And I was so excited to actually capture the sunlight through the mist – something I have always wanted to do but never quite have succeeded at.

What a beautiful way to end 2011.

Today was a day of capturing tiny moments, the last few hours of 2011; preparing for 2012; wondering what the coming year will hold for me and my family. Today was a simple day of pure beauty and peacefulness, a reminder of God’s faithfulness.

I think I’m ready for the new year, for a fresh start and another 365 days.

See you in 2012.

Christmas This Year

Christmas2011-Day1 018Christmas2011-Day1 020
As fall rides off in the sunset
I sweep the snow from my doorstep
I just can’t help but stop and grin
It’s like I’m ten years old again
And everywhere I go I can feel it

Some say it moves like a spirit
It falls on us once a year
Like it came on a midnight clear
It’s all love
The season is a gift
When love came down to let us live
Let’s open up and let our hearts embrace this moment

Christmas2011-Day1 043Christmas2011-Day1 044Christmas2011-Day1 045

For Christmas this year
Gonna make a sound
Gonna make it loud
For Christmas this year
We’re gonna make some noise
Let the world rejoice
For Christmas this year
For Christmas
For Christmas this year

The laughter starts before the sunrise
I sneak downstairs at the sparklin’ lights
And oh what joy it brings to me
Our family around our Christmas tree
And I thank the Lord for His favor
As we sing the songs of the Savior
Our Savior

Christmas2011-Day2 001Christmas2011-Day2 024Christmas2011-Day2 032Christmas2011-Day2 043Snow didn’t fall on Christmas Day, but that didn’t make the day any less fun. We got to go to some friends’ house after church, and we spent the whole day there. It was a sweet time of fun and conversation…and pool! Turns out my Dad is pretty amazing at it – he learned while in the military. We all were given mini lessons by Dad and our friends.

We only opened presents this morning, since we got home so late last night. Everyone had fun, especially since most of us love giving gifts in funny ways – with crazy wrapping, silly notes, and more. There was quite a bit of laughter! Our family was so blessed this Christmas by so many wonderful gifts from our sweet friends.

This week was full of music, brown-paper-and-newspaper gift wrap, and chocolate covered pretzels. Because how can you have Christmas without chocolate covered pretzels? (You can’t. It just wouldn’t be the same.)

I miss the snow. Dreadfully. Seeing green outside is not the same as seeing white. But that’s okay, because Christmas Is All In The Heart.

So merry Day-after-Christmas, and happy rest of the year!

wallpaper I have been listening to TobyMac’s new CD, Christmas in DiverseCity, all month long. ;) I love how upbeat it is, so fun and cheerful; something that is guaranteed to put you in the Christmas spirit. This week’s challenge was to create a Christmas-y wallpaper, so I had to do this one. Christmas this Year is one of my favorite songs on the record. (Feel free to take this wallpaper if you like, too! =D)

Merry Day-Before-Christmas!
