We Went & Visited Winter

Over the last couple of days my family and I went on a sort of mini-vacation to a little town in Indiana…where we got to see our first snow of the year! We were very blessed to avoid any accidents on the road (we happened to be driving exactly when the ice on the roads was the worst…we ended up seeing around six or seven accidents in just a couple hours of driving), and once we got there we could just sit back and enjoy winter like we normally don’t experience it at home. ;) North Carolina, of course, only…

Stars and Sky

I love the entire concept + style + end goal of this project. We’re going to end up creating a simple, clean design with bits of strong contrast here and there. My favorite part of all of this is probably the color scheme – deep gold on midnight blue, with light grays to soften it all up. Talk about striking! I’m seriously looking forward to sharing more of this project!

Of Christmas and Gifts

Every year our family comes up with one big gift to give to our closest friends and family. Sometimes it’s an ornament, sometimes it’s a shirt; and this year it’s a little songbook with eleven favorite Christmas hymns. I really wanted to help out on this one, because it’s the type of thing I enjoy doing! So we ended up going with a hand-lettered design (turned into a stamp) on brown kraft paper, printed lyrics + music on the inside, and tied everything together with hemp and twine. I still have more to do (we’re sending out nearly fifty!), but…

I’ve been thinking today about the shortness of life. And how fragile and precious it is. It can be taken away in a second – one moment there’s life, then next it’s been snuffed out. Each life is of the utmost importance and value. From the unborn child to the oldest person – even the people who might not seem “worth it” to another. Life is a gift of God. And it is not something to be taken away unjustly. When things like the thought of death and how real it is come to mind, it reminds me every time…
